Finally got this posted! It was originally built sometime in 2014 and only received a few upgrades since then but hasn’t been touched for 6 years probably. You may have seen it featured in numerous official Space Engineers update and main menu videos over the years.
This is the official release of the ship from about a week ago. A lot of builders, myself included, have been trying to get our hands on it for a long time. I even found a visual recreation of the ship on the Steam Workshop that I poked around with for a little bit more than six months before the official release.
Having said all that, I’ve got mixed feelings about the design. I’d like to take a crack at improving it (starting by converting all of the armor to light from heavy and doing an all or nothing scheme), but the ship’s outer appearance doesn’t fit with any of the factions I’m working on. If I do take a shot at this, I’d like to add it to one of my factions so it’s not purely a side project with no relation to anything else.
Xocliw’s giving a two month window for the design competition, so there’s more time than you’d normally get with these sorts of things. I just know it’s going to be a bigger time sink than I can really justify right now. Hell, I’m not even sure what direction I want to take the refit in. Carrier? Updated battlecruiser? Battleship? I don’t know yet.
So for right now I’m just thinking about it. If I decide to commit to this craziness, I’ll be keeping the blog updated on each phase of the project. More so than usual: Lots of screenshots, more rambling, etc.
I overshot my target on sleep last night by a good couple of hours and today was nearly the same. Not a good start to the week, really. My extra post is probably going to have to be tomorrow sometime in the morning rather than right after this one.
Anyway, there are around 10 days left in June and I’m chipping away at a few things I can still take care of in that time frame, the most important one being The Lyre of Binding. Another target is the Cosmo Messer workshop upload, though I could miss this one even more easily than the Lyre chapter if I’m not careful. The newer projects are extremely distracting.
These early afternoon crashes are really starting to slow me down, so I may have to start powering through them until my body’s rhythm goes back to something closer to normal.
That’s all for now. Tomorrow should be more interesting. That’s the plan anyway.
That was surprising. I didn’t think I’d wind up using Des Moines. We had some very good matches, though. Naturally, with good matches comes good video materials, though I doubt I’ll ever get to use most of it.
I also got a match in with the Preussen, my favorite Tier 10 battleship overall. It’s not a Bismarck class ship but it definitely plays like one.
It looks like this calling job is going to be a thing anytime the normal callers for the clan aren’t around and I am. I am well and truly resigned to it, now. That means I’ve got to start investing more into the game as far as knowledge goes. Research and all that. I need to know what we’re up against in much more detail, as well as how to counter it.
The rest of this season’s going to be a bit frustrating, but I think I can manage.
Welcome to another week of the update preview. This week’s quite special since it’s something we worked on all based on your fellow players’ requests, something that should be exciting to builders and customization enthusiast.
They’re letting us build the guns, too.
It’s a simple but beautiful idea, and now I’m looking forward to 0.9.0 more than ever. I know the highlight of that update is supposed to be the multiplayer testing, but honestly, having this level of customization available on our weapons was completely unexpected. I figured they might already be pushing the envelope by letting us add accessories to not only the MASS unit, but also the individual handheld weapons they equip during missions.
Thinking about it more closely though, this might be less resource intensive since they’re working with a simpler model, and letting players define the weapon’s appearance with just the accessories. That’s opposed to how things work currently, where weapons are fairly detailed on their own, and accessories are placed on top of completed models.
I’m sure Vermillion Digital will try something similar with melee weapons at some point, but today’s preview was about the shooter weapons. Either way I’m looking forward to this.
My sleep ‘schedule‘ isn’t great for these evening posts. I might switch to doing them in the mornings since I don’t have any updates. That or maybe there’s another way to keep this from being a last minute thing. We’ll see.
Since tomorrow’s the weekly M.A.S.S. Builder news, it won’t be up until sometime in the afternoon, but that’s not a big deal. I can’t refer to the new post until it’s up, and it’s usually not up until mid-morning or around noon.
Anyway, I really don’t have anything to update the blog on, so I’ll leave things there.
