Small Update 7/19

Since nothing noteworthy happened today I’m just going to leave a few comments about what I’m hoping to get sorted by the end of the month.

Premiere Pro

I need more practice with video editing, so by late August I want to have at least a couple of new videos in the Video section. It’s not just going to be World of Warships replays. I’m branching out from here even if I have to reach a little. That portfolio’s not going to be built on gaming clips. Not exclusively.

Fresco

This is one of the Adobe programs I’m trying out. It’s working with my stylus well enough, but there’s always a free alternative like SAi if I can’t get the results I want. I’m not too worried about that, though. By this weekend I’ll post whatever test art I’ve made.

Audition

Another Adobe program, a DAW I’m hoping I’ll have time to at least poke around in this week or next. I haven’t worked on music in ages and I’m not sure that will change any time soon, but if it does, it’ll have something to do with Audition. For now I’m just hoping to try it out and see if it’s the right fit for something down the road.

I can’t afford an illustrator, so it’s not like I can afford a composer, either.

Not yet~

Dune

Still reading through it and so far it’s really good. It’s nice to feel a certain way naturally and not be ramrodded toward it like in some kinds of media. It’s also nice to see the effort and I’ll be putting in just as much.

What I’m not sure on is whether I’ll be able to catch up and finish the book by the end of July. I’m only a third of the way through so things are only just starting to really heat up on Arrakis. I’m not sure if it’s better to let this month’s read stretch a bit into August by going at my own pace or pick a couple of days out to try and finish it on time.

A question for later, maybe.

Closing

That’s it for now. Let’s see how things look by this weekend.

Tablet’s Working

I was worried the fact I hadn’t used my tablet as a tablet in so long might lead to some issues and it did, but thankfully it only took about an hour to get everything sorted. Now it’s working more or less as advertised.

Next, I need to get my personal hardware (drawing hand) working and I should have at least a few practice sketches done by the weekend. I’ve got no idea what those sketches will be, but I want to keep things very basic to start. I never quite got over the difference between drawing with paper and pencil vs drawing on a screen with a stylus.

M.A.S.S. Builder: New Quark In-Game Footage

M.A.S.S. Builder: New Quark In-Game Footage

This drake looks pretty cool.

Big, overemphasized arms, red accents, and huge wings. There’s definitely more detail here. I also like the tinges of purple that are blended in with this design’s claws and other crystal-esque bits.

I’m not sure if this quark is going to be just melee specialized, or if it’ll be able to use ranged attacks. If it’s just a melee type, I’m guessing it will charge up those gauntlet hands with energy before or during its combos. Either way, very cool design. The extra detail makes it looks and feel more grounded and better scaled than the first set of quarks.

Perfect

An issue that was slowing down my studies finally got fixed, so I should be able to get back to it in earnest. As for what any of that means, I’m not quite ready to get into details on the blog. Not yet. I’m just hopeful that by the end of the year I’ll be able to leverage more of my skills and really get this site (and others) off the ground.

In the meantime, it’s endless note taking, making whatever progress I can make on Lydia’s Golden Treasury, and brushing up on my drawing and video editing skills. Clan Battles ended at a pretty good time now that I think about it.

Also, have a look at this. It’s perfect for Aeon media … and a billion other things.

Let it Rain

I never really understood the positive association with intense sunshine and the negative with rain and thunderstorms. It probably comes from living in the desert, but even more than that, something about the way the atmosphere changes during rainy weather, thunderstorms in particular, really puts me in a good mood.

It’s not really that close or intense right now, and I’m still getting the benefits.

Either way it’s nice to have a break, however briefly, from this 100+ degree (F) heat.

Ready to Retrofit

Ready to Retrofit

More like completely rebuild. I don’t know why these ships always look and feel so much bigger on the inside than the outside, but the effect is exaggerated with the hull mostly stripped out.

Grayish ship on the right is a Town Class Cruiser (WIP)

I’m probably not going to rebuild the carousel hangar from scratch, so it’s likely staying right where it is with few to no modifications.

A lot of work ahead …

That’s all there is to show for the most part. I just wanted to finish stripping it down today. I’m not going to start rebuilding the interior until I’ve fully mapped out the new design. The new version needs to make sense for both fighting purposes and for the crew. No more CIC sitting directly behind Bruno turret or a gymnasium right next to the reactor room.

To Be Continued

Stripping Out the Hipper

I’m not finished yet, so I probably won’t have pictures or the like until tomorrow at the earliest, but the reason I’m doing this is because I realized I can get the interior and exterior combination I want without starting from scratch.

That’s not to say I didn’t try. The trouble there was that I’d already come off that inspiration high I mentioned last week. By then I was just struggling to follow a specific interior pattern and it left me flailing while trying to figure out the exterior. I didn’t have any real direction, basically. Once I started chopping off pieces of the original Hipper to fill in the blanks, I knew I was on the wrong track.

The original Hipper’s shape is more or less right. The internal layout is the problem, so we’re stripping the whole thing out and rearranging everything to be more sensible, navigable, and just that bit more practical for actual fighting. Anyway, that’s the plan on that. There’s plenty of other things going on, but this is the only thing worth mentioning right this minute.
