Glad to be Reading It Again

There were a lot of things I’d forgotten about throughout the Thrawn books, little things mostly, but it’s nice to have 98% of my hunches be spot on because of that. Now I know how it feels to be Thrawn himself.

Sort of.

Anyway, I’ll be finishing this one up pretty soon. After that, it’s probably going to be Dune. I don’t see a reason to push that back any further.

Note to self: Pick up Specter of the Past and Vision of the Future ASAP so I can immediately pivot back into Good Wars.

I’ve Been Waiting For This

I was still pleasantly surprised to see this mod go live so soon.

Not everything is there yet, but basically all of the Yamato’s weapons are in the initial release.

I did some testing this morning shortly after the mod dropped and I really like the way these turned out. It’s especially impressive for a new modder. You can bet I’ll be keeping a close eye on this one and offering what feedback I can come up with.

My Factions

My factions weren’t all going to use the same weapon mods since that would be inconvenient in some areas and just plain boring besides. Having said that, I do want to limit each faction to just one weapon mod. Nothing’s more annoying that seeing a good looking workshop blueprint that has ~10 mod dependencies.

That means I can’t use this one for my Space Kaisers. I’m thinking I’ll use it for the mostly Japanese faction instead. For now I’ll just be messing around with them while I finish up older projects. No hard commitments with new mods just yet.

Clan Battles 6/22

Tonight had a lot of back and forth for some reason. I only played the Des Moines and the Moskva, switching over to Moskva when we started shifting more toward the x3 Marceau and BB strat, which basically relegates any remaining cruisers to defense. Des Moines is probably still better overall, but Moskva has an edge in certain situations. Not to mention she can bounce a lot more fire.

I hopped back in Yamato for the last game, but nothing noteworthy happened in that match.

Things ended fairly early due to a few dropping out, but that just means more time for me to recoup, think, enjoy the weather (it rained earlier), and get my thoughts organized.

CBs definitely could have gone better overall, but we had some good games, and I’m getting relatively comfortable in cruisers again.

Considering Entering the Xebon Refit Competition

This is the official release of the ship from about a week ago. A lot of builders, myself included, have been trying to get our hands on it for a long time. I even found a visual recreation of the ship on the Steam Workshop that I poked around with for a little bit more than six months before the official release.

Having said all that, I’ve got mixed feelings about the design. I’d like to take a crack at improving it (starting by converting all of the armor to light from heavy and doing an all or nothing scheme), but the ship’s outer appearance doesn’t fit with any of the factions I’m working on. If I do take a shot at this, I’d like to add it to one of my factions so it’s not purely a side project with no relation to anything else.

Xocliw’s giving a two month window for the design competition, so there’s more time than you’d normally get with these sorts of things. I just know it’s going to be a bigger time sink than I can really justify right now. Hell, I’m not even sure what direction I want to take the refit in. Carrier? Updated battlecruiser? Battleship? I don’t know yet.

So for right now I’m just thinking about it. If I decide to commit to this craziness, I’ll be keeping the blog updated on each phase of the project. More so than usual: Lots of screenshots, more rambling, etc.

Chipping Away

I overshot my target on sleep last night by a good couple of hours and today was nearly the same. Not a good start to the week, really. My extra post is probably going to have to be tomorrow sometime in the morning rather than right after this one.

Anyway, there are around 10 days left in June and I’m chipping away at a few things I can still take care of in that time frame, the most important one being The Lyre of Binding. Another target is the Cosmo Messer workshop upload, though I could miss this one even more easily than the Lyre chapter if I’m not careful. The newer projects are extremely distracting.

These early afternoon crashes are really starting to slow me down, so I may have to start powering through them until my body’s rhythm goes back to something closer to normal.

That’s all for now. Tomorrow should be more interesting. That’s the plan anyway.
